boom art

(click for larger)

I think this is the first painting ever inspired by a play of mine created not specifically for marketing purposes! A milestone.

A fabulous boom inspired paiting by Deborah Dixler. (media: oil pastel and ebony pencil).

The quote,
"...And they're dying. Starving
themselves in fear. Hundreds of corpses trapped in the coral. And no
one is eating the carcasses, that precious defenseless energy. There is something out there, that is scaring the fish.To death."

(Daughter Hillary Dixler worked on the Seattle Rep production of boom)

Seattle is loving and extending the boom

Boom at Seattle Rep is now extended to December 21! Yahoo indeed.

Reviews have been awesome

DC folks, you have till the 7th!
And Cleveland, your opportunity awaits! I'm sadly missing this production but I'm sure it will rock. And they have very sexy publicity stills.

Phew!

I have just emerged from another intense and wonderful four day workshop with director, cast and crew of T.I.C. (Tickets on SALE! Goldstar tix available too!). Hoo ya, it is one amazing room of wild and crazy people. Ken Prestininzi, director/turg/bandleader has been cracking open this play and helping expose the yolk. This is one crazy little piece that I'm still making huge discoveries about in its structure and tone. Over 50 new pages this weekend, figured out the ending, and we figured out the essential idea for the staging (BlogVille is the term, Vaudeville as Blog metaphor). More honing to do before rehearsal officially kicks in in ten days.

For you local theater folks, the cast features Arwen Anderson, Anne Darragh, Lance Gardner, Michael Shipley, Liam Vincent and Rebecca White. AKA Team Awesome.

DC like the boom

The Washington Post seemed to have a good time and so did my Mom! She came out from California and hadn't seen a production of boom since it's very first reading in San Francisco, and that was before the climactic bag moment.

We also were big fans of the National Portrait Gallery/American Art Museum. And I also had to watch the TSA wand my mom at the airport due to some metal in the hip. Something about watching a parent get wanded by the government gets me angry and defensive.

Anyhoo, DC was a blast, the production is beautiful, and I love the Woolly Mammoth. See it till Dec 7

Fall Du Crazy continues now with heading to Seattle for a few days! for
First Preview is tomorrow, but unlike Woolly, I've just been a distant contributor to the rehearsal experience, talking on a conference call and emailing daily. I am SO excited to see what magic they have done.

AND THEN

The thing that is exciting me incredibly, giving me nightmares, moments of panic, self doubt, thrill, excitement, angst, pain, and occasional irregularity is the brand new spankin production of T.I.C.! I am so lucky to be working with an incredible cast and director and team of producers. Read some Chad Jonesin about the show here!

The play is going to one crazy ass thing, I can at least promise you that. More details soon. I'm actually procrastinating rewriting a song for it right now, so I better go get back to it.

Greetings from DC, again

That's Sarah Marshall, Kimberly Gilbert and Aubrey Deeker up there from the Woolly Mammoth cast of boom. They have been rockin it sweet this preview week. I am thrilled with the production here which has been handled with great skill and care by the whole team. We open Sunday and the show's already been extended to December 7. Sweetness! Get your tickets and info here district people.

Miscellany from the week:
We had a pay what you can preview on election night. About half a house showed up. During the 90 minutes of the show, Obama got 200 electoral votes. We made it to bar around 10:15 PM, just in time to see Virginia called for Obama. At 11, the West Coast closed and B.O. won and street mayhem began. Lots of people were cruising the streets in their cars, blasting music and shouting Obama. I know this happened all over the country. Amazing. Awesome. Finally some since news.

But then Prop 8 won so that's a hard dose of badness. I want to meet the people who voted to legalize medical marijuana and eliminate the rights of gay people to get married. I hate the initiative system.

I've misplaced a script for my new play, TIC, somewhere in DC. Perhaps at a monument. Just you know, thieves, the damn thing is copywritten.

Hello Seattle!
